This is the second version of Superman, in its second deco. As with most of the original Justice League members, this is the more playable version of the character, designed to accommodate an arsenal of large-scale accessories.
Review[]
This figure is a re-done Superman with 9POA. The figure was first released with the Mission Vision and Morph Gear releases of Justice League in place of the previous 5POA Superman so as to be able to hold accessories better and overall have better playabilty with multiple articulation points.
The figure became the staple for nearly all Justice League Unlimited 3-packs that carried a Superman figure. When the Justice League Unlimited line was renamed to DC Superheroes: Justice League Unlimited, he was then released in singles for almost every series carried therein, each time with accessories. In series 3 he had the Black Mercy mini-figure (unpainted) that appeared in the JLU episode 'For The Man Who has Everything'. In series 4, he had 'super-breath' that had an odd strap that was carried around his mouth/upper neck. In series 5, he came with probably the best-looking piece of Kryptonite ever to come with a JLU figure.
Along with most 9POA figures, fans clamored for the return of the sleeker, more design-accurate 5POA figures, thus, with the exit of the DC Superheroes line, most 9POAs went with it. However, the very last appearance of this figure was in DC Universe: Justice League Unlimited Fan Collection where he was the sole 9POA figure in a series of 5POA, so as to be able to hold the Phantom Zone projector accessory. It is likely that this figure will continue to reappear in future series.
